  • R. Thor · 1 year ago
Very nice result but it's not very GoMedia... My opinion is that you guys should do more of illustration tutorials, like t-shirt designs and etc.

This website is my number one inspiration but this doesn't inspired me so much...
  • Marco · 1 year ago
Ho-ly shit. That really looks amazing! Thanks for the information, I'll spread the word :) .
  • Simon H. · 1 year ago
Woaw ! This is amazing ! And even if I'm not a Cinema 4D user, that's the kind of tutorial that might turn me into one ;-)

Finally a cool Cinema 4d tut, I've been waiting for this! Nice work and thanks Barton!
  • Khaled Dostzada · 1 year ago
I must say this was your best tutorial by far. Do you use Cinema 4d normally in your work flow, or was this a one time occasion?
  • protski · 1 year ago
Very nice tut, but 3D Typography has become a trend, don't you think?
  • Steve · 1 year ago
I can't believe people are actually ragging on this tutorial. I've never even considered using Cinema 4D until now. This free tutorial is priceless. How much quality FREE instructional spoon feeding do you get in your world? There are a LOT of crappy tutorials out there, this is not one of them. If your don't expand your skill base, you'll get left in the dust.
  • Jacob Cass · 1 year ago
Why haven't you provided the rest of the tutorial? The final image is so different to where your tutorial ends... it is these final steps that are important to making it look professional, it was a disappointment not to see these steps outlined but otherwise great tutorial, I will be doing it soon.
  • Paul Babb · 1 year ago
Great use of 3D for illustration. I'll make sure we add a link from our online training site Cineversity (www.cineversity.com) so more of our users can benefit from this tutorial as well.

That, sir, is baddass. Very well done, but I have a questions... what type of people use Cinema 4D? As an apprentice graphic designer, I have never used it.
  • Wes D. · 1 year ago
Great work...as always! I may have to start dabbling in 3D/4D :) I have been resisting as long as I possibly can, because it seems like everyone is going to this sort of thing for typography, and I haven't been a band-wagoner, but this is pretty sweet, I can see it having some application in my future designs...

    Thanks again!

Great tutorial here. Unique and something I have been looking for. Could not get the explosion effect anywhere on the web. So thank you and this is definitely becoming one of my new favorite reads out there.
  • Tori · 1 year ago
@ Steve...Amen Brutha!!...Very well done..love the final product...I don't even HAVE Cinema 4D and I still read the whole thing ...but I love watching processes.
  • Barton Damer · 1 year ago
    Khaled,
I've really gotten into using c4d for a lot of my designs lately. I use it for motion graphics as well but it really has added "another dimension" to my graphic art. ;-)

There are more examples of c4d used in my designs here:

Just completed the tutorial, added some of my own personal touch to it but yours still looks better :) Thanks Barton and all the Go Media people that, by wanting to drive traffic, teach and broaden the horizons of loads of designers or entrepeneurs. Thank you!

  • Andrew · 1 year ago
I'm having a problem with one of the very first steps.

All my letters when I extrude them come out like a flat 3D extrude. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can click Hierarchical and it fixes it to what it's supposed to be, the letters come out 3D, but in your images you don't have Hierarchical selected.

Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong.
  • Ackbar · 1 year ago
where the hell is the material editor!?
  • barton damer · 1 year ago
    Andrew,
Leaving it with Hierarchical checked is fine. I only separated mine out into individual Extruded Nurbs in case I decide to change the depth of certain letters in relation to the explosion.
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
I've figured out what I did wrong, thank you.

I'm having another problem though. After I apply material to a extruded text object, the material effect only seems to change the extruded part of the text rather than the whole thing, so the "face" of the text comes out rather dull and it doesn't look right.

    Amazing work!
The best part about this is that it sparks new sources of inspiration.
Using this technique as an animation in combination with AfterEffects could yield some seriously wicked results!

Hi, I really liked the tutorial but I am also interested in the finishing of the image. You stopped with a rather rough image but your example has so much more depth.

For a lot of people it's not always hard to get this rough image. Could you go a bit further? Explain how you get the shiny edges and the brighter reflection of the letters? Or is this just something you adjust in C4D?
  • Shaan · 1 year ago
Wow ! This is amazing ! I really liked tutorial.
  • thexpostmanx · 1 year ago
Hey great tut, However I seem to be having a problem when it comes to adding the new materials(Im new to 3D design as well as cinema 4d). When I assign the Materials to the Sky or a Letter nurb the Sky wont display anything i still see a grey grid, and when applied to nurb I get only a solid color even though the material settings are correct and look correct on the preview.
  • ekul · 1 year ago
Truly epic tutorial, many thanks to the creator.

I did, however have trouble when it came to separating the letters of the text, I had null objects instead of NURB's, unlike your screenshot, so it was impossible for me to add a Fillet Cap to the text, not sure whether that was my fault or the programs. I ended up creating each individual letter separately capping it from there, thanks once again for the tutorial, it is greatly appreciated, I learnt a lot!
  • Teri · 1 year ago
AHHHH!!! I get so frusterated when people do this. The preview graphic and end result look nothing alike! C'mon bro go a bit more in depth and show us how to truely get YOUR end result. Other than that really great tutorial, I learned alot, but I would really like to see some more instructions to get ours looking like the preview graphic...

Great tutorial…thank you. Everything worked just the way you explained, well done.

To everyone who's looking for the artist to hold your hand and walk you through the EXACT process GROW UP! Be a little more curious and allow YOUR path towards and end result be different. Don't you realize that every single decision you make towards your end product will make your image unique? Why work so hard to duplicate something?

No doubt those who are looking for their image to look exactly like yours won't make it anyway.

IF U DON'T WANT US TO COPY YOUR DESIGN,THEN ITS BETTER THAT U DON'T MAKE A TUTORIAL ABOUT IT AT ALL STUPID :)

I agree with homo.. The people who makes the tutorial is very stupid.. Its better that they dont make a tutorial AT ALL unless its a REAL tutorial with all the details for it!

Some of the harsh comments on here are really uncalled for. I do agree that it would be nice to know whether you added the final touches, like light sources and reflections, in photoshop or C4D. Since knowing that would influence how far I want to delve into the tut.

    Thank you for sharing!
  • vic · 8 months ago
homo really is a homo as are the rest of the negative commentators. great tut, inspires me to do an animated vers. for our prod. company n next few months. peace.

p.s.-what the hell is wrong with those neg. ppl? this isn't about copying exactly, it's about inspiring and if ppl copy and claim it to be original, oh damn well they're homos just like u.
  • John · 7 months ago
tutorial is too vague, adding random textures that are 'already made' is lame, seems more like a showoff than a tutorial
  • Elphin · 7 months ago
Be grateful that there are peoples who love to share their knowledge here for free. I feel sorry for you guys who think that this tutorial is stupid or think that Barton just trying to show off just because you cannot get the same end result. Go back and learn the basic first, before attempting this tutorial, and later you will be able to figure it out what's missing in this tutorial. I actually consider that as a challenge.

If you cannot still figure it out, there's nothing wrong for asking a question. There's always people who would love to help.

Awesome Tutorial Barton. Love 'That's My king' Video of yours too...

    Cheers mate...
